If using just spermicidal lubricant, what are the odds of getting pregnant? This is more of a research type question as opposed to a personal use question, so no smart asses please =)

What are they? Foams, jellies and sponges are designed as barriers containing spermicidal chemicals. Foams and jellies dissolve themselves, while the sponge must be physically removed.

How do these prevent pregnancy? They cover the cervix to prevent sperm from entering the uterus, placing a barrier between the sperm and the egg. You'll also hear them called vaginal spermicides meaning they kill sperm.

How effective are these methods? These chemical/barrier methods are about 80-95% effective when used on their own, but are best when used with condoms or diaphragms.

Did you know that foam with a condom is almost 100% effective?

I just stopped working in the family planning field. I would google this because it's definitely not up to 95% effective as someone else wrote. I *think* it's about 75-80%. The sponge has spermicide in it, but it's also a barrier method, making it work better. Something else to remember, too, is that spermicide should only be used by a person in a monogamous relationship who knows her partner has no STDs. Spermicide is an irritant for most women, causing little tears in the vaginal walls, making a straight path for an STD to get into her system.

It should tell you on the package the changes of getting pregnant. But I think it is only around 80% affective.

i dont think its impossible just the fact that the sperm needs an initial velocity to reach the ova, and single sperm cells dont have enough of it

not very. as the sperm are shot out very fast and would most likely get passed it to quickly to be harmed
