What can I say to people when I see a stranger that I find interesting? What would be appropriate to say to them to let them know that I am interested in having a friendship with them?

Be a friend yourself. Treat people the way you like to be treated. Don't impose your lifestyle on anyone. Smile as a smiley personality is radiant and attracts people.

Well when you approach the person, talk to them about what it is that made them interesting to you. Striking up a conversation is a good start. Then if you two hit it off - i.e. have a good conversation, can talk for a while, are comfortable around each other - then an invite for coffee or hanging out or inviting them out with your other friends is a good next step. Never be afraid of talking to people; make eye contact when you speak, smile a lot!!

Good body language is also important. Face the person you speak to, keep your arms uncrossed, don't cover your face.

I think even telling someone, "Hey you're cool. We should hang sometime," is always the most direct way of letting them know that, hey, you think they're cool!!

I would feel embarrassed doing what you suggested, how about doing things that you enjoy doing and you will meet others that enjoy doing the same things. Example: If your interested in permaculture and sustainable living, try a local permaculture group. If you are feeling too shy and depressed currently, maybe try a support group or organization that helps with social anxiety or depression, .. or while I'm at it a communication group like "Nonviolent communication". If you're out in the sticks, and there are very few people around, maybe you could meet people through your job, or find a job you would enjoy and meet people. Other than that the only other thing coming to mind is say hello occasionally to people and let them know how your life is going briefly, and ask questions to them if you feel like it, ... If you are reffering to meeting a possible mate that your attracted to maybe say hi if it feels comfortable and state something like the truth like: I kinda feel shy saying this now but, I'm attracted to you currently and I'd like to know more about you. Would you like to go get something to eat, or can I have your phone number if you're in the middle of something. Happy journeys -A

Just approach them in a nonthreatening way and introduce yourself. Let them know that you find them interesting and you'd like to have a conversation. It's no different than when you are a child and you go up to another child. "can I play with you". Only don't say that. without knowing the situation, it's hard to give you exact statements. just be friendly, happy and outgoing. the rest will fall into place.

It can be very akward at first, but you can always try just saying little things.
People like to talk about themselves and like to be complimented), so as them about what they do, or even something simpler like "Where'd you get that sweater? It's so cute!"

A good place to make friends is in your workplace, since you see those people a lot and it's easier to strike up conversation whether it's abotu work or not.

Or, if you're more outgoing than I am (I'd be too shy for this), you can always just say to someone "You seem pretty cool, I'd like to hang out with you"

Be the change you want to see in the world. Gandhi said that.

Be a nice friend to some one to have friends around you. It works in every thing in life.

You make friends by watching their wallet. If they don't have much but pennies and cents then you better have enough sense to know that the less money a person has, the less importance you should place of making a person like that your friend.
