Hire an accounting firm to conduct due diligence on the company. Not only will they inspect their books but they will conduct an on-site inspection of inventory, leases and run a thorough credit check to see who has leans against them, what the company owes in back taxes, etc. For me it was money well spent!

You must have an address of their central location. A phone number with an area code at their central location, not just a sales toll free number.

Go to the "Who Is" dot com registry to trace the owner of the domain name you are looking to purchase from. If listed, you can apply it to the Better Business Bureau to see if they are registered with them.

If they are and have been in business for more than three years with no complaints, you can also take it a step further and check the Dun and Bradstreet report for publicly traded companies for a fee. About 60 dollars US, I believe.

See if they have an A rating.

Keep in mind, that stocks are no reflection of the growth of a company. They are two separate entities. Stocks are merely to see if it is a fortune 500 company that is on the record as debt free.

Other quick ways of checking is "Success Magazine" online and Home Business Connections online. Google these links to find them and then type in the search engine, the name of the company to see if they have a written review.

Good luck with your search.
