Mine works great and is my#1 safety item. Whenever a car pulls in front of me I throw it at the car thus scaring the poop outta them and causing them to pull over allowing me to speed safely by.

Helmets help to prevent skull fractures and brain trauma during slow speed impacts. Full-face helmets also prevent facial injuries in an accident. At higher speeds, helmets may prevent abrasions but will do little to protect against blunt-force trauma. To be effective against blunt force at speeds above 15 MPH a helmet would have to be ~3 feet in diameter.
Helmets are mandated in 17 U.S. states for adults and it's a very controversial topic dealing as much with public safety and responsibility as well as freedom of choice and personal responsibility. Many contend that death rates of motorcyclists per mile do not go down appreciably if at all in states where there is no helmet law. Many organizations lobby for motorcycle safety training and motorist training in lieu of helmet legislation. Many have even successfully fought helmet laws as unconstitutional (see Quigley vs. CHP, Santa Cruz County, California).
Others have argued that statistically there are more head injuries per capita for automobile drivers than for motorcyclists - therefore why not mandate helmets for motorists?
It is a topic fraught with emotion. Suffice it to say that if you live in a state where they mandate helmet use, it's a moot point for you and you must wear one. If you do not live in a mandated state, then it's something you should research carefully when you make your choice and purchase the correct helmet for you.

Depends on the type of helmet, speed of wreck and type of wreck. For a head on crash were you hit something hard and fast it woun't stop your brain from moving too far too fast...
But for slow speed crashes or if you just lay it down and slide it can mean all the difference in your injuries.
Also, a full face DOT helmet is best. That full face will protect your face better. I have a half-face hemet myself. So if I wreck I may get a broken jaw or face bones and road rash.
I'm sure you can find studies or crash simulations on the net...maybe youtube has some examples of crash tests using differnt crash types and different helmets.

Only if you wear it! It must be in good condition and properly fitted! Do not use one that has any previous damage. Also, there are a lot of "novelty" helmets that are for looks and prvide little or no protection. The helmet shoud be DOT or Snell tested and approved.

A helmets works very well in low or slow inpacts. A full face will keep from eatting grass.
In a high impact or high speed, it may save your life. But it may cause you to be alive, when you may wish you were dead.
I have been down two time. Both times I was wearing a full face. Both were at low speed. Both time no road rash to the head or face.

the real question is what would it be like to have your face ground off or how much does life really count to you and what impact would your demise or your permanent dissability have on the people who care and love you as you are helmets absolutely its truely more impresive to hear that crash story from the partisapent rather from a saddened third party

When you consider that helmets are impact tested at less than 20mph, I wouldn't count on them to save your life.

Pro's & cons. They do the things mentioned but depending on the impact or accident, they can cause your neck to snap so at that point, it wouldn't really matter about the road rash.
