During the last few days my computer has been freezing up. While running some programs the computer will completly freeze and I will have to turn the power off and then turn it back on. The computer seems to freeze while I am playing World of Warcraft, or when my Virus scan gets to a certain file. To try to fix the problem I donwloaded a registry repair program, and this fixed the problem for about 2 days. After 2 days the computer started freezing again. I have since downloaded and ran an adware program, but the computer continues to freeze. I have tried to run Virus scan, but the computer always freezes when it gets to a certain file. I do not beleive it is a hardware problem, I have 1.5 gigs of RAM, and my hard drive is barly half full. Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

It sounds like you have a trojan.

Go to start. click run. type "regedit". when regedit opens, click on hkey_current_user. the click "software". then click "microsoft". then "windows". then "current version". then open "run".
If you see anything in that folder that has the number "32" or a "%", delete it. An example would be if it said "systemroot%system32"
Thats the hallmark of a trojan.
The click on "run once" and make sure there is nothing in there. if there is, the virus put it there to reinstall if you removed it with an antivirus.
After that do the same exact thing, but replace "hkey_current_user" with "hkey_local_machine"
If you want to be really sure, you can delete everything in those folders, the only thing that will happen will be that when you start up none of the programs that start automatically will start. youll have to open them from the start menu.
Then, restart the computer. By removing tht registry file, the trojan wont be able to start. It wont even know it exists anymore.

Finally, if you dont want to get another virus, get firefox(a free replacement for internet explorer). I havent had a single virus since i started using it, neither has anybody else I know.

Your computer may be infested with spyware. Go to http://www.download.com and get Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.06 then:
1) install it
2) update it
3) run full system scan
4) select all detected objects with right mouse button
5) remove the items
This will get rid of most of the spyware

Then run Disk Defragmenter
it is located under your start menu > all programs > accessories > system tools >

When you are done with this, update your anti-virus and run it.

After this, you should go to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us and download all of the windows updates.

This should take care of most problems. If you are still having problems, then I would suggest a system restore you may have installed something that has corrupted your system files. If you do not know what you are doing with editing the system's registry you may do more harm than good. Good Luck!

Hia, first of all don't worry and calm down !! Right, Sometimes the effects of crashing are caused by 1) Too many programs running at once or you clicking something continuously with speed. 2) You have an infectious program on your computer e.g Limewire is well-known for viruses and although I use it myself I have been told that MSN messenger eats up your computer 3) You have a virus on your computer so if you have done or have any of theme points then I suggest you uninstall the program or take it to a repair shop.

I'd try a full defragmentation of your drives,.. but first; do a full system clean,. ie Disk Clean, drives C:\ and D:\, (providing you HAVE a D:\ of course), should be done, then after that, start a defragmentation,.. depending on how bad the fragmentation is, and the size of your Hard-drive/s,.. it could take from 15mins to a couple of hours,.. so best leave this until the last thing at night, leave your pc running overnight, then the following morning, reboot your pc,.. and, if all has worked; your machine should run a treat. If not; then there may be something more fundementally wrong.
