Kobe, 81 points in one game, cool. All I have to say to that is, Game 7 in last years Division Playoffs...only shot the ball 3 times in the second half of that game! Isn't he supposed to take games like that over? McGrady? Not so much a team player. When Yao is hurt he takes over, when Yao is playing, he's just another 20 and 8 layer. (Thank goodness Houston picked up a defender like Battier) Where's the love for what Steve is doing in Phoenix? All the records, numbers and stats (not to mention commentators on EVERY channel) say he's the best at that position....What gives?

ok...Now I can clearly see by the answers of some people above me that they have no clue of what basketball is whatsoever. The only basketball some know is one-on-one. Ok! There's a problem with that. It's not actually basketball. All you guys trashing Nash...Let's compare..T-Mac has had a bad season so far and has barely lived up to his all-star fame from last year (by the way...any decent guy will agree that last year's all-star in huston with T-Mac as the "victim" who didn't get the MVP was rubbsih) and furthermore he is not that spectacular as some say. Check out his last games. Look for the errors when trying to cross or shoot on a one-on-one situation. You'll see what I mean. As for Kobe...Hands off he's one of the best players the NBA has ever seen. And I agree that he is a good pick for the All-star beacuse he makes a show. But he is NOT a better team player than Nash. Some of you simply trashed Nash and praised Kobe..Remember that the ones who truely know something about NBA said that only since Kobe has started feeding the ball to his teammates did he started being an excellent player.
Basketball is a team sport...in a team Nash is 10 times over Kobe and McGrady.
For all of you who know nothing about the game the All-star is not about basketball it is about money and advertising (remember that fans choose the players..with over a billion and a half chinese you really think Yao's not going to play?).
In conclusion...I would choose Kobe as a starter for the All-Star...I would have Nash there to..T-Mac somewhere in the stands... As for basketball....Nash is a more complete player than the other two....Stats talk!!!

For the guy above me criticizing Nash for not shooting enough - I understand your defense of Kobe, but Nash does average over 19 points per game. It's not like he's never shooting the ball. I agree that Kobe takes way too much heat no matter what he does, but I don't think that's a reason to knock Nash.

I never get too worked up about the All-Star game, because it's all based on fan voting, and you know that most casual fans really have no understanding of the game. Personally, I've got no problem with Kobe starting over Nash, but the selection of McGrady bothers me. Great player, but Nash has been better this season.

I'm sure Nash can take solace in the fact that he's likely to pick up his third straight MVP trophy at the end of this season.

the All-Star game its what the fans vote for, Take Yao ming for example he led the league in votes. Is it fair?? No! He doesn't deserve to be there. Its what the fans want.

About NASHOLE; bottom line people see Nash as some extremely talented pg. Compare him to magic and Stockton. That's all they see in him. They don't realize he put up the same numbers in Dallas and still made the Mavs look good. Now with the Suns and he does the same thing That's not MVP worthy at all. I honestly think Nash won the MVP titles because there is a lot of clueless voters who follow basketball. Lebron Dirk, Kobe, Brand and Wade were much better than Nash was last year.

This is what happens when they let the fans voting determine who starts and who doesn't. I respect T-Mac and Kobe for what they do, but neither of their ball clubs are 36-9 at the moment. Steve Nash's numbers have increased each year in Phoenix and as a point guard, it's not his job to hoist up 20+ shots per night. He is the best point guard in the business and should be starting.
Kobe should also be starting as the 2 Guard with Nash on point. Why have 2 shooting guards in the back court. And T-mac is not a great defender either for those who may think he is and he should not be starting.

The All-Star game IS about popularity. It isn't about the stats. Around the world, a lot of products are endorsed by the players who usually start during the all-star game (VC, Kobe, T-Mac, LBJ). Nash may be the best point guard in the L, but he isn't always the most marketable (though he is part of the new Second Coming advert of Nike Air Force).

Kobe and McGrady simply got more votes than Nash period.

True NBA fans have now come to realize that Nash is a poor defender and his current numbers can be credited to Phoenix's
run and play no defense style of play. It aslo doesn't hurt to have Stoudemire and Marion on his team.

Kobe and McGrady are the back bones of their teams and deserve to start over Nash.

Because the fans acutally know who the better player is.

Kobe>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nash. End of discussion.

Last time Kobe had a post player on the level of Amare he won 3 titles. You put Kobe on the Suns and it's over ladies and gents. Go ahead and crown them. That's the simple truth.

No way is Nash on Kobe's level. Nash get's 10+ assists a game, but look at his weapons compared to Kobe's(who by the way gets 6 assists himself to go along with near 30 points and 6 boards).

Again, Nash is not on Kobe's level this year or in boths respective careers.

Because Despite being named MVP over the last 2 yrs, Nash just isn't as popular as Mac and Kobe, Gee I wonder why could it be because all he is, is a guy who gets a whole lot of assists and scores a few buckets a game where these two guys are great all- around versatile players, people want to see a show and be entertained not someone who just makes alot of fancy passes.

kobe shoots a lot and he's a ballhog, he doesn't shoot enough and he's an idiot. he gets criticized either way. kobe scored 169 points in 3 games and 62 points in 3 quarters on a seperate occasion. he recently became the youngest player ever (passing jordan and chamberlain) to reach the 18,000 point milestone. kobe is hands down the best player in the league. you could make a case for nash starting over mcgrady, but you should have voted for him more then. people vote for who they want to see play, and nobody wants to see nash play. i, personally, have had enough of steve nash and am growing tired of the way he plays. there's a difference between "pass first" and "only looking to pass." is he really trying to better his teammates, or is he selfishly trying to pad his stats. assists are not more valuable than points, regardless of some erroneous belief of the nba's current fan base. an assist depends on how well the players around you can score, and the phoenix suns players and type of style they play sets up steve nash, the primary ballhandler, perfectly for a ridiculous amount of assists. i could get 12 assists a game on that team. he also leads nba point guards in turnovers. i feel nash is doing nothing more than meeting expectations, rather than exceding them.

ps- can u imagine john stockton winning and mvp over michael jordan???? because that is equivalent to nash winning two over kobe. it's a travesty.

hey i feel you man, but listen; the allstar game is not about playing good or bad, it considers stats a little bit, but not much, the allstar game is all about popularity, it doesn't matter what you've been doing this season, but what you have done in the past. I know steve nash should be starting aswell and dirk nowitsky and alot of other players but they're are not as popular as kobe and t-mac so until that changes or maybe they can change the way they select the allstars, you will continue to see kobe and t-mac in the starting line up
