"playing online chess a couple of times my pieces have outnumbered the computer. The opposing king disappears off the board, all my pieces turn black and I'm in check. How does this happen?"

This is something about the computer memory overflow etc. That is why on-line games can be cheated.

maybe because another piece is attaking your king or that it's gliching and you need to redownloaded or you or them made an illegal move
