Same here! My 5 1/2 month old has been doing this for the past few weeks. One thing that's been helping is getting her to bed a little bit earlier.

I get a weekly email from BabyCenter.com; incidentally the following was in today's...hope it helps:

As long as you're putting your baby to sleep on his own at bedtime, it's all right to do whatever you think will help him go back to sleep when he wakes up in the middle of the night. With a consistent bedtime routine in which your baby falls asleep on his own, night waking should diminish in a few weeks. If it doesn't work, try this checking routine: Stay in your baby's room for a brief time, keep contact neutral (patting him on the back a few times is fine), and don't pick him up. Leave and return in five-minute intervals, gradually increasing the time you're gone. Some babies just have more trouble getting themselves to sleep, so don't despair if your baby takes longer to learn how to sleep through the night.

Work on establishing a consistent nap schedule so your baby is getting plenty of daytime sleep, too. Napping well during the day is an important component of sleeping well at night, since sleep-deprived babies wake more often at night.

The same exact thing happend to my daughter at exactly 5 months. She slept soundly through the night from 3-5 months and then at 5 months started waking 3-4 times a night. I thought maybe she was teething (she wasn't), maybe she was hungry/growth spurt (nope). Bottom line, she wanted to play with mom! This lasted for about 6 weeks. She is now almost 8 months old and has been sleeping through the night again. My best advice...let her cry it out even though that is so hard.

It sounds like she is teething. Check her gums to see if it looks like she is going to pop a tooth in. If she is teething, you put crushed ice into a bottle and let her chew on the nipple. Teething rings never really helped my daughter, but you could give it a try. Just put it in the refrigerator for a few hours to let it get cold. Whatever you do, do not put it in the freezer. It can cause frost bite on the gums. If all else fails, give her infant tylenol or motrin.

If it is not teething, she may have gas. You can buy mylicon drops which help tremendously. Good Luck!

She is re training you!
I know it is hard but let her alone, let her find a way to sooth herself back to sleep. My daughter is 3 and hasn't slept a single night through EVER. Are you following all her normal nap times and bedtimes? Make sure you stay consistant, go back to doing what ever you had been doing. It sounds like it worked.
Your doing a great job, I wish I could done it differently, so we would both get a good nights sleep. stick with what you were doing otherwise you'll end up like me with not a single full nights sleep in 3YEARS! lol
