Sand logged in waste pipe?
Problem !! I was emptying out my fish tank of water down the bath and some sand got into the pipe and now the bathroom waste pipe seems to be blocked and no water will go down. The sand must be lodged very tight in the pipe. Any idea on how I can fix this ?

e careful not to pressurise it too much but get a hose pipe and play the jet down the sink hole, eventually it should wash the sand up and then down.

If you use one of these pressure cans, you are liable to blow the piping apart

More than likely, the sand is in the 'trap', causing a block.

If you can access the underneath of the bath by removing the bath panel, you should be able to unscrew the trap and empty out the sand.

Make sure you scoop out the bath of any water first. Be prepared for a slight water spill that may also be in the trap. A small towel should be enough to soak up this 1/2 cup of water.

It will probably be the trap which is full, not the pipe...

Remove the side of your bath and look for the trap... It is like a bulb shape (can't think of a better description without drawing it :-)), unscrew it and see if it is full. Beware that when you unscrew it, the smell will probably be rank... No matter how clean you are...

Empty it and then re-attach and run some water through... I think this will solve your problem..

If you can get the bath panel off, you can get to the waste trap underneath. take tis off and clean the sand out of it. Then see if you are able to clean out the wastepipe with a sraightened coat hanger. This should do it.

Flush it out with a garden hose. If that does not work, rent a plumbers snake.
