I can watch old episodes of Only Fools and Horses - one is almost forced to with the present cable set-up! - and they are like Bond films - one cah watch them over and over again. Would you consider them perhaps the best of British? Maybe you can offer an alternative?

Curb Your Enthusiasm is now shown in the UK - it belongs to the "cringe" comedy category like eg The Office (UK) and Fawlty Towers. Not a criticism - but Only Fools is more "laid back" - though it also has its fiar share of "cringe" moments

Yes I agree it's great every time you watch it. The trouble is the BBC are jumping on the celebrity bandwagon with rubbish like Dancing on Ice and Come Dancing when they should really be investing the licence payer's money in decent scriptwriters. The Vicar of Dibley was also good (written by Dawn French) and I used to love Father Ted.

I agree that only fools.... is a pretty good show but it seems to me that you are quite new to the sit com business because I remember things like Hancocks half hour and for what it's worth that for it's time was just about the best and I'm sure that if it was in colour and recorded better they would be putting it on every night on every channel now. To justify my comments you only have to remember lines like "My god, that's nearly an arm full" and "I thought my mothers cooking was bad but at least it moved around the plate". I'm sure you have heard some of these and more, and you are probably not old enough to have seen the shows, which to me proves that that brand of comedy will last forever.

What about the original 'Likely Lads' or 'Ever Decreasing Circles' or more recently, a little gem 'Early Doors' (from the writers of 'The Royle Family, only better). Watch an episode - I defy you not to laugh, especially with the two coppers who call in.

You're dead right. Wish they would make some more.

Like Fawlty Towers aswell, just for the dryness of it and Basil reminds me of my OH.

Its a great comedy which is beautifully written.

However, I find Fawlty Towers just pips it to greatest sit com ever made.
