It is very expensive, and I don't know of any free or low cost student versions. You may be able to find out on the company web site (see the source). Just like their software, the web site is extremely user hostile and confusing. At least I think SAS is confusing. It shows its old mainframe heritage all too painfully, IMO.

EDIT: Although I had no luck starting at the main SAS web page, I was able to find a $125 "learning" version of SAS with google. See the second source.

SAS or Statistical Analysis System, is a well know software developed by universities for scientific analysis and research. It has a very strong math and statistical engine that is used by PhD level researchers to help in statistical analysis and data charting and graphs. Recently they put on a data mining front end that makes it useful for businesses to find statistical related data and trends in customer databases. It is one of or the most powerful research package in the world. It is very powerful so would be difficult to put on a laptop. It is perfect for number crunching on supercomputers. I once analyzed a large data-set that took so much CPU power that it was more CPU time than one researcher used in a year. The answer by the way was identical to the research paper answer.
