The states keep the format of the country intact. Our state governments enact/enforce laws which are not important enough to the whole country, but to the people of a specific area.

For instance, California is having an energy crisis right now, and are trying to fix it, as well as clean up the environment. To help, they wish to completely phase out incandescent light bulbs, in favor of florescent ones. This issue is due to problems in a localized area, therefore it's not very important to, say, New Hampshire what type of bulbs they use. Pushing a bill of that magnitude through the national Congress would take too much money and effort, so they are just enacting it through the state Congress.

Also, it helps keep the laws of the land intact. The Constitution specifically says that any laws not delegated to the federal government are given to the states, or the people. If we did away with states, a LOT of our laws would disappear.

there's no question the two social gathering's have abused their potential on the Federal point. Congress administration has long previous lower back and forth between the two social gathering's for nicely over a hundred yrs. And the spending has continuously long previous up and so has the debt, inspite of which social gathering has majority administration. The Democrats desiring a cap of 39% on taxes and the Republicans desiring only 35% isn't a distinction in Ideology. nicely ain't Democracy grand as quickly as we get to argue over 4% of how lots they plan on stealing from us. it's time to renounce Complying with those unconstitutional Federal regulations and abuses frequently with each and all the administrative orders used at the instant by skill of Presidents. this is appalling this abuse by skill of one man or woman in a rustic it is meant to be for the folk by skill of the folk. The closer " We the folk " save the potential to us the greater advantageous. Even greater advantageous than the States having the potential could be if it grew to become into much greater localized to cities and cities and much greater advantageous neighborhoods and with the guy themselves.

I assume you are talking about the United States of America.

It is one of the fundamental checks and balances against the federal government becoming too powerful.

In our system of government power flows from the people upward. Originally the only purpose for the federal government was a mechanism to regulate interstate commerce and to provide for a common defense in times of war. Matters of regional government were to handled at the state level. However, over the course of the past couple of hundred years the federal government as greatly expanded its scope. What is even more frightening is that there are many people (like you, apparently) who fail to grasp the inherent dangers in more centralized forms of government. In a nutshell, it is great as long as "big brother" is benevolent. However, as history has shown time and time again with socialist systems, ultimately the central authority becomes populated by greedy, corrupt, power hungry politicians and the whole system eventually collapses.

There are many of us (generally known as conservatives) who believe that we should reign in the scope and influence that currently exists at the federal level and return to more localized authority. Please understand that I believe that the federal government plays a vital role in our national well being. However, I believe that its scope should return to something closer to what the original framers of our constitution intended.

Good question since many people are now national socialist.

We were supposed to be a laboratory of 50 different gvmts. If one state screwed up, it would only effect them. Now because of national socialist, their mistakes are felt by the whole country.

National socialism didn't work in Italy or Germany in the 1920's - 1940's and it shouldn't be tried here.

good question, I think it is rather stupid, it is very complicated when you travel alot to know what laws apply where...ie..talking on cell phone when driving ...right on red..."dry counties" (my least favorite..)...and so on....it would be easier and cheaper to administer if we were all the same w/regard to state laws..
