Maxtor harddrive came out of a 300mhz unit

Look and see how you cdrom drive is connected. Is it connected on one of you ide chains or is it connected to a sound card or some other interface. You could very well need to load drivers for a different interface. I haven't done this in quite a while and last I remember I would load the drives in dos mode for some of my older non-ide drives.

You could also try creating a startup disc from the control panel which will have some of these drives loaded to see if it finds your cdrom drive.

Check your BIOS. Make sure the drive is set to CDROM.

go to my computer icon, move the pointer over to drive D:/ and click it to explore, and see if your drive has found it .

You may need different instalation hard ware to make your drive work

if it is a dell computer,you can only fit a dell cd drive
