Well, a bridal shower is typically more formal and you invite all your friends and family. You receive gifts for your wedding and play some games and just have a nice quiet day together.
A bachlorette party, on the other hand, is usually when the bride goes out with the girls and parties. Its her last chance to go out as a single girl, so normally the girl gets drunk or they hire a dancer. No gifts, but I hear they are alot of fun.. I know my bachlor party was!
So... bottom line is:
Bridal shower = no drunks
Bachlorette party: All Drunk

a Bridal shower is tasteful and fun, in a nice venue with good friends, while a Bachelorette party tends to be a bus pub / nightclub crawl and usually involves a nasty male stripper embarrassing the bride.

Bridal Shower: The bride expects people to bring her gifts, even if she doesn't really talk to or know these people. For example, her mom's boss.
Bachelorette Party: The bride and her friends go out to bars and act like whores, wearing penises on their shirts. The bride is encouraged to make out with random guys and ask them for their underwear.

A bachlorette party is a party where you and your friends can go out and be wild and crazy. A bridal shower, is more like a party in which your friends, moms and grandmas can go--it's much more laid back.

Bachelorette party is just the girls and there is drinking and maybe strippers. Bridal shower can include the aunts and grandmas and people bring presents. And there is cake and mints!
