I work at night, outside and in the car, so I usually wear 6 layers on top and 2 or 3 on the bottom. Sometime 2 pairs of socks too. I live in New Hampshire and lately the wind chill has gone to 20-30 below, so I wear as much as possible. I'm not sure you could get much more on and still be able to walk.

I believe it was five layers (every bit of clothing I had with me) when I camped out at an event and the temperature unexpectedly fell to around 15-20 degrees F.

3 when I was in China one Winter...it was 15 below.
