Ive had a big end go,and boy you would now if yours has gone.It sounds like really heavy knocking,from the centre of the engine,will be quieter under load and more noisy on the gas.Check your timing though,because if its to far advanced,that can cause a similar noise,but not as loud.

When u rev up the engine it will knock like hell low down in the cranck case, if it has just started it may just be the big end bearing shells, but continue to drive the car, you will wreck the crankshaft.

Heavy knocking rattle from deep down in the engine, varies with engine speed; if that's happening, have it seen to now, before the crank gets damaged. But ask the garage to listen first, to confirm your diagnosis.
