Once lava comes out of rocks they cool down and depending on the rate of cooling down they form crystals. This is basically igneous rock.

Igneous rocks are called fire rocks and are formed either underground or above ground. Underground, they are formed when the melted rock, called magma, deep within the earth becomes trapped in small pockets. As these pockets of magma cool slowly underground, the magma becomes igneous rocks.
Igneous rocks are also formed when volcanoes erupt, causing the magma to rise above the earth's surface. When magma appears above the earth, it is called lava. Igneous rocks are formed as the lava cools above

Igneous rocks are formed from molten rock. Granite, Basalt, Pumice, to name a few.
Sedimentary Rocks, like Limestone, or Sandstone starts out as calciforous mud or loose sand that builds up and builds up and, under it's own pressure from weight, forms the loose particles into a harder rock, but still holds it's own chemical composition.
Metamorphic Rocks started as one kind of stone, and through heat and pressure; transformed into another kind of rock altogether. This includes rocks like calcite, gypsum, etc.
