Ok well Sims 2 is going to be choppy on anything you have. It hogs so much of your system. I have a high-end gaming system and can play any game at full resolution except Sims 2. I have never been able to get Sims 2 to run well on any system.

If you are looking at a laptop, HP makes the best as I've seen. I recommend a laptop with an AMD processor. The portable versions of Intel chips are not very good quality. If you want a PC that can play games, anything current would do. I would not purchase a Dell or Sony computer. Basically the largest portion of what determines if your system will play games well is the graphics card, next to that is the BUS and then the processor. I would go with AMD because the overall speed is much higher.

If you want a computer that can play games without problems you probably are going to have to spend at least $500 on a PC and $800 on a laptop.

It depends on what you mean by cheap. First, if you want cheaper, I would stick to a desktop rather than a laptop like the Inspiron. Laptop gaming machines exist but they would not be called cheap. If you want to go the laptop route, check out the Alienware Aurora. It starts at $1800 and goes up from their.

The major thing you will need is a good graphics card. A good value card will run around $150, a mainstream card around $225 (see the link below), and a power card over $500 (and you can pair up two of those to double the speed and the price).

Beyond that you want a lot more memory than you probably have now. I'd recommend 1gb if you're running WinXP and 2gb if you want to run Vista (which is a resource hog).

Processor speed is probably the least important thing for gaming and disk size and space should not be an issue so you could economize in these areas. Disk speed, on the other hand, will be important so look for faster (7200 rpm or 10000 rpm) disks.

One place to find cheaper computers is in the outlet sections of various manufacturers. Unfortunately you probably have little ability to customize these machines. If you want to check out this route, Dell has a big outlet.

Total you are talking at least $1000.

If you want to try putting one together yourself, check out Sharky Extreme's value gaming machine recommendations (below).

If this is too much money, you can probably add RAM to get to 1gb but other than that there are limited upgrade options with a laptop.

Since its a laptop, there is almost nothing you can do. you cannot upgrade the graphics card.

This is a decent laptop with a much better graphics card that what yours has, but not stellar by modern comparison.

If you want a computer thats going to last, and hold its price, then you are going to have to spend at least $1000. For $1100 you can get one with a core 2 duo and an x1600 gpu. For $1300 you can get one with an nvidia 7600 or 7700.
If you are willing to go with a dell again, than you can get a 17" laptop with a nvidia 7900gs for about $1000 to $1300 depending on how you set it up and if there are sales.

Generally there is no such thing as a "cheap" gaming computer. Games require lots of computing power and that comes at a price.

But if you are on a budget, then upgrade only the most essential components. For games you are going to needs a good graphics card, and as much RAM as you can get your hands on. A fast CPU would also help.

i don't be attentive to if there is taken under consideration one of these element as a "durable" pc in recent times, sorry. basically get something on your funds from Dell or Acer or whoever you like. Or do as I do and build you own from high quality factors. the final thank you to make your equipment final longer: Get a high quality PSU. do no longer decide for the cheap stuff except you want it to burn out in a years time and take 0.5 your factors out with it. don't be seduced my enormous wattages and flashing lights furniture. an high priced 400W PSU is going to be lots greater effectual than a cheapo 600W one. Do artwork out how lots capacity your factors desire and then upload on approximately 100W greater beneficial even though it ought to prove that your selected factors use much less capacity than you think of. My C2D 8200 processor is quickly yet in basic terms takes tiny sips of electrical energy. besides i'm getting off subject rely. good success with besides the fact which you purchase.
