i am 8 weeks pregnant and I sleep 10 hours a night now.

Up until about 2 months ago, I would go to sleep around 11:30 pm and wake up at 5:30 am feeling GREAT.

But for the last 2 months, like I said, I've just been exhausted. I sleep for 10 hours or more a night and I'm not waking up until 8 am....

IS THIS NORMAL for a pregnancy in the first trimester?

First of all has your doctor done all of your prenatal blood work to check for any problems with your thyroid or low iron? With my first 2 pregnancies I had trouble with these and I was so tired! This is my 3rd pregnancy and I feel this way again, but all of my blood work came back normal this time. So the doctor told me it is just pregnancy taking its toll. You have to remember there is a little life inside you taking everything that you have!! I am 15 weeks and I am still very tired and cannot get my husband to understand that, he thinks that I am just taking advantage of the situation so I won't have to do the housework!! I wish he could feel as bad as I do sometimes! Best of luck to you and your little one!

Yes, I'm 11 weeks, and I'm having the same problem.

It drives my husband crazy! I sleep about 9 hours a night, plus on the weekends, I nap all day. I fall asleep at work, on my commute (I take the train), watching tv, and doing just about anything.

The kicker with me is that my nausea appears to be linked to my exhaustion, so the more tired I am, the more nauseous I am. That makes things extra interesting, but I've found that a good nap will fix both problems most times.

I am told that it is perfectly normal, and it should lift by the second trimester. It comes back in the 3rd trimester, so I guess we'll only get a 13 week reprieve. I'll take what I can get, though!

Ohhh yea it's definately normal. My first trimester I would get up at 5:30 a.m and go to work. Come home at 2:30, stumble into the shower, crash on the couch until about 5:30, cook dinner for my hubby, eat, and be asleep again by 8:00. I was so exhausted I wanted to cry!!! At around 14 weeks my sleepiness went away and now I feel pretty much normal other than I have a gymnast inside of me. :) You'll feel better soon. Just rest as much as you can. Your body is working hard! It's growing a little baby!!!

Absolutly normal. When I was in my first trimester, I would take my 1/2 hour break at work and I would fall asleep for an hour. I only worked up to 3 months and even when I was at home I would usually have to take a nap in the afternoon. I am in my last trimester now and I finally have some energy back! They do recommend in pregnancy books to nap when you can and to get as much rest as you can when pregnant. This is a perfectly normal symptom of pregnancy. Good Luck!

Very very normal. Your body is exhausted because it is creating the placenta during the first trimester, which will serve as your baby's life support system throughout the pregnancy. I was so exhausted and fatigued I couldn't walk around the mall more than 20 minutes without collapsing and needed 12 hours of sleep a night.

Sleep as much as you can. Your body neeeds it.

Trust me, you will feel so much better by 12 weeks to 14 weeks. The second trimester, you won't feel nearly as tired.

Eat healthy and take those prenatal vitamins!!

hang in there

Yes. I remember when I was pregnant I used to sleep around 10-11 hours a day and still feel exhausted. Your body is going trough so many changes so fast that is only normal to feel tired all the time. Congratulations on your pregnancy, what are you hoping for a boy or a girl?????

Oh yes as a matter of fact I'm 26 weeks pregnant and I can't get enough sleep they say after the first trimester it goes away but for me it has stayed but I have 3 other kids and that might be the reason hang in there hopefully you'll start feeling better.

it is normal now and toward the end...
now because your body is not just changing chemically, but pyhsically... it is in overdrive to make sure everything the baby needs (that is available) is there... and slowing you down is one way for it to build the highways, byways and interstate for this baby (cells, tissues, and umbilical cord) keep in mind when you are sick, the antibodies and blood cells that we make in hyperdrive is in part the reason we get tired at those times... well, same concept (kind of) this is not an illness however! it is a whole new life and your body is right this minute helping it to get the resources from you to "build" it...
last three months I found I was more tired... mostly I was told due to the baby needing my extra calories and so if I did not eat enough? I was drained... eating is not the cure all? but OJ in the morning helped me throughout the whole pregnancy.... and some snacks like rasins, dried fruit I was big on... and yogurt... vanilla... lol.. and I do not like any of those really.... dr. told me that those cravings really do work... our bodies tell us if they need an extra nutrient... if we listen... so... yes... normal to be tired... enjoy it while you can?! it gets better while our bodies prepare us for the sleepless nights by keeping us up.... sigh...
not trying to scare you...lol.. just want you to enjoy the sleep you get... and if you need more? do not get scared.... you are busy, building an angel (with help from above;)

I am seven weeks pregnant and I pride myself on being a morning person, but I am sleepy all day and I cant get out of bed for anything before 10 am. The doctor says once my heart gets used to all the extra blood it has to pump that I wont be as tired. Until then I guess I will indulge in the extra rest.

This is very normal. Make sure you're eating really healthy, and sleep as much as your body needs. I've found that in my pregnancy, the food I eat and the amount of sleep I get makes a world of difference in how I feel.
