I don't know if the food has anything to do with it, but guinea pigs do like to have companions. He probably is lonely.

Go to your local shelter or rescue organization. You should be able to find a female that is already spayed.

What do you mean by cereal food? Guinea pigs shouldnt be eating cereal.
Guinea pigs should have unlimited Timothy Hay, timothy hay-based pellets, fresh water every day, and at least one cup of fresh green vegetables daily.
If the pig stops eating pellets but only eats the hay, this is completely fine. Most guinea pigs will choose one over the other and some wont eat both.

On a different note, all guinea pigs do better with a cage mate and shouldnt be housed alone.
Having 2 females together is scary because they will fight. Two males should be okay -- although they WILL establish a dominance ranking order in the beginning.
If you get a new guinea pig, you have to quarantied him for about 2 weeks (in another cage) to make sure that there are no illnesses that your guinea pig could catch. One the quarantine time is over, they can be put together.

The best way to do this is: have both pigs out of the cage and clean it completely and wash it down -- to get rid of as much scent as possible. Add fresh litter and fresh food. Next, bathe the 2 pigs together at the same time and dry them. Then put both guinea pigs in the cage together so that there is almost no scent from either one of them. Maybe put them in with a plateful of fresh green leaf lettuce.

This is how i have always introduced boars and if they both go into a fresh clean cage after having been bathed together, its best. And then if they share a plate of veggies, it almost makes them instant friends.

Actually, getting a rabbit is not the best option at all - rabbits and guinea pigs have much different dietary needs, not to mention that a rabbit can cause a lot of damage to a guinea pig if it got on the wrong side of the rabbit. I would look for a good local guinea pig rescue who will help you out. It is perfectly possible to introduce a baby male guinea pig to an older male, if you give them enough time. Many rescues will be prepared to help you do these introductions properly, and so you could end up with a happy guinea pig, and help out a rescue guinea pig that needs a home too!

Nothing to do with being lonely, the majority of G pigs that stop eating do so for health reasons - I don't mean to lose weight, I mean that there is something wrong. The most common reason is dental problems, which will need veterinary intervention.
A rabbit companion is, contrary to ill informed opinion, not a great idea, as many guinea pigs end up being dominated by rabbits, leading to stress related illnesses - even if they seem to be OK to the casual observer

hello, i have a guinea pig and she loves eating lol. she never stops. i dint think your guinea is lonely although they do like to live in pairs or groups. if you want to make him really happy i would get him a male friend as they dint fight, or even a small rabbit. guinea pigs love the company and get along with any sex. guinea pig or rabbit. just make sure the hutch is big enough and you can afford to keep them. also try changing the brand of food you are feeding him as he may be getting a little bored of what hes been eating for a year. i hope this helps.

Please consider getting him a spayed female from a rescue who will also do the bonding for you to prevent an incompatible companion. They will make sure they are well suited and don't fight and will have been vet checked, teeth and claws checked before going home. Please don't get a rabbit. As previously mentioned they do have a tendency to dominate guineas and I have seen many injuries caused by this. Good luck.
