The city of Holland MIchigan ran water lines from their power plant, up thru downtown, under the streets. The water from the plant was waste heat from their electrical production. It was a very neat experience to go downtown, and see all the streets and sidewalks clear of snow/ice, when everywhere else, there was a 2 foot pile of snow, hehehhe.
Now... thats a large scale operation.. on a smaller scale, you can use geothermal energy. Literally, pump water from underground (where it is about 50 degrees temperature, up to some radiant heating placed under your driveway. The warmer water in the radiant heat system will keep the snow and ice melted off of your driveway.... and all you are paying for, is the electricity to pump the water. Note.. this is the same idea behind geothermal heat systems for your home, just applied to snow removal on your driveway.

I once read an article about another idea... someone was selling reflectors, which you could mount on your roof, or along the drive, which would redirect sunlight, to melt the snow... I would think the largest drawback to this idea would be a cloudy day, hehehe.

Either of these methods of course can be expensive solutions.. but they are pretty good, in my opionion. (I really like the idea of using the geothermal energy)

Good Question :)

Hire the kid down the street with the snow blower (or a shovel).
So many kids would like to make some money, if we'd just hire them. You get the snow removed, they get some spending money. Win-Win.

I'm not sure there's much else you can do to get rid of snow. go to the hardware store and see if they have anything? Try a big place like Lowe's or Home Depot..something like that. Aside from rock salt, shoveling or plowing, I can't think of anything else that would do the trick. good luck.

I'm a New Yorker, can't do much , best thing to use is a snow blower, you can get a cheap one during summer, be ready for winter. Think about it, you pay some one to do it, minimum $20, so invest $200 in a small machine...
