IMO ~ I don't actually think there is a monarchy in England. A monarchy is defined as (at least from what I think) undivided rule or absolute sovereignty by a single person. The monarchy that USED to be in place where the king/queen actually had power . . that's another story. The monarchy today is just fame and a title. It's like being the president. It's not actually the president who makes things happen, its the room full of people behind him that decides/makes it happen. The old monarchy might have not been the best for the very low classes, but the class system lasted how many hundreds of years? There's obviously something that worked about it ~ for good or for bad.

There is no monarchy in England. The Queen and eventually the King are merely figureheads that are not part of the government of England. They are kept in their position of royalty for the sake of tradition. The real government in England are the Houses of Commons and the House of Lords and the Prime Minister. There are still countries that have reigning kings and queens.

The monarchy in GB is, by todays standards, for show. The British people are governed by an elected body and has been for many decades now. Royalty in England is for public relations, thats about it.

No. I'm not British. But then I don't know too many British people that support the monarchy either.

Absolutely not. It goes against all my principles.
The fact that someone does not have to do anything more than get born into a position of wealth and power with people hanging on every word, is a mystery to me. I don't get it.
The argument that the royal family bring in a lot of revenue is flawed.
The British pay vast sums of money out of their hard earned taxes to pay the royals' salaries.
Do away with the Royal family. Convert some of their properties into parks and give the rest to orpahages, charity, cancer research etc. i.e. where some real good can be done.

Though I'm also not British, I do support the Monarchy. I think they are in important institutional reminder to the British people of the long history and culture to which they and I (I am both of British and Scottish heritage) belong. They represent nearly a thousand years of continuous tradition for Britons. In them is a mirror of what British society has been for that time. They reflect sometimes the best and sometimes the worst in their people. The trials and tribulations of kings and queens also mirror the advances and setbacks of British society.

No I can't stand them, yes i know they do a lot for the British economy but it really gets my goat how lavish they have to be. personally wouldnt give the queen the time of day if i passed her in the street... she'd probably run me down in har bullet-proof, chauffer driven bentley! im afraid i am against the monarchy, bunch of toffs if u ask me.

The Queen is purely a ceremonial head of state. The UK is not a monarchy; it is run by Parliament.
