"knightwing992000" is spot on. People are responsible for their own actions. How strange it is that Americans are adamantly against "socialist rules" (as if more than a few knew what that entailed) and yet have no problem with being overly litigious and suing over a sliver in their finger and want to be protected from that.

Smokers and overweight people _should_ pay more for health care, but that's not all. They should pay more in airfare; anyone over a specific height to weight ratio should pay a surcharge for fuel (eg. 6 foot and 200 pounds maximum for a man).

The reality is, nobody pays attention to the effects of their actions until it hits them in the wallet. If paying higher prices for the resources they waste is the only way to get their attention, then so be it.

At the same time we get to tax skinny people and average people for all they cost us, or for being so narrow minded that they believe the only reason for being "fat" is laziness and over eating. Their are medical conditions that affect peoples weight and other conditions as well. In fact weight is more a factor of genetics than habit. As is allot of the diseases narrow minded people place on "fatness". While were at it was should tax stupidity.

When we will also tax sad, happy, tall, short, long nosed, short nosed persons.....

Do you really think they need to be punished (because "tax" sounded like a punishment)? It's a feature, sometimes medical disturbance, sometimes natural tendecy, in no way a guilt, or a luxury to be taxed.
A national level education program could help prevent from growing "fat generations". As well as helping those with problems understand them, use knowledge, medicines or self control to get over the problem.

Maybe we should tax anyone who has a condition they inhereted or that is somehow not perfect. The Nazis would be proud of you for suggesting such a thing. Tax fat people who's next, bloggers?

Some people are obese due to heredity, medical conditions they cannot help, or medications that make them that way. Yes, there are some that are fat because of lifestyle but still they are people and deserve the respect of anyone else.

Bigotry isn't just confined to racial, religious, or ethnic but to anyone who doesn't fit some mold set as perfect in the mind of the bigot.

So now, you take your sheets and go burn a cross somewhere else and leave the rest of us alone.

THe question is this:

Should overweight people pay more in medical insurance.

Another question:

Should smokers play more in health insurance?

My answers to both questions are yes. If you look at statistics of the health of obese people and smokers they contribute a large portion in cost of medical expenses.

There should put $$$ in programs where you can help these people to lost weight and/ or quit smoking . It has to start in school when they are young.
Good luck!!!

I think we are already taxing them- this is America after all. I think you need to realize a few things before you spew such ignorance.
