My 4 year old daughter has had asthma problems the last few days and a sinus infection. I took her to the doctor on Monday and he prescribed Zithromax, for the infection, and Prednisone for the Asthma, as well as instructed me to give her one treament a day of Pulmicort on her nebulizer.

I did this Monday evening and all was fine...except the crazyness from the prednisone..she was bouncing off the walls...I kind of expected that....To make a long story short, she wet the bed Monday night, wet her pants Tuesday at school, and then again last night while sleeping....Mind you, she hasnt wet herself in a year...and now that she is on all this medication she has done it 3 times in 2 days. Is this a normal side effect??? Should I ask the Dr. about this, or is it just coincidence or a phase?

I have looked of the side effects and found nothing of the sort...Is this normal?? She bounces off the walls with the prednisone, and wets herself at night????

Absolutely!
I was giving my eight year old daughter over the counter medication (I can't recall what it was, sorry!) and she kept wetting the bed and I determined that the medicine was making her sleep too heavily to get up and go to the restroom. She still wets the bed if she's extremely tired. Any medication that affects their energy levels could lead to bed wetting and accidents. Speak to your doctor about your concerns but rest assured, it shouldn't last forever. She's only four and this isn't that big a deal. I started to stress about my eight year old wetting the bed but I made myself realize it wouldn't last forever and that other factors were involved.

Hang in there!

Prednisone causes increased urination and thirst. I am on it for asthma and ulcerative colitis. More often for the gut issue. While on it I need to go nearly every 2 hours with a full bladder. You can't decrease fluid or else cause other side effects which are worse such as huge blood sugar spikes which can damage the eyes. If I was a young child I could fully understand a child loosing potty control while on the drug. I often wake in pain needing to go at night after sleeping just 4 hours. Steroid inhalers don't have this side effect. They have their own such as increased sensitivity to humidity changes. I am just glad I am not on the drug longer than a few weeks a year.

My son has taken all of those medications, but he is not potty trained yet. I would definately think that there is a connection though, and would contact the dr right away!

Hello and sorry to hear about your daughter's reaction to the medications. Please call her physician immediately and tell him everything she's been doing. Her physician will give you sound advise regarding any reactions or choose to make alternate directions in her medications.

If you can not reach him directly immediately, ask to speak to his nurse.
