Got a new cpu built about 6mths ago, it ran great/quiet. Recently it's got a little noisey, not bad... also had 'overclocking warnings' upon turning it on... I'm wondering if the fans clogged up - and would it be wise to use a vacuum on it?

This is a common issue.

First, vacuuming is a very good idea. Don't worry it won't hurt any of the components. Clear dust out of the air vents, the fan, and the motherboard, along with anything else you happen to see.

Next, take a screwdriver and tighten down the fan, the hard drive, and your optical drives. These can easily shake loose in a 6 month period, and is the main cause of noisy computers.

NOOOO don't use the vacuum on it you must be very careful, okay
1. turn it off
2. unplug
3. open it up with a screw driver or something, they often have very clever openings
4. look and see if there are any loose pieces (and by this I mean do not touch anything that still has a wire on it, but check if there are any disconnected pieces of metal)
6. and if if you do all that and it works fine else
7. download avast antivirus 4 home edition (www.avast.com really good so download if you don't have it anyway - it's free)
8. and see if it has a virus or
9. bring it to a computer person (if you have a bajillion dollars) or
10. do number five again
11. you looked up to find that there was no five
12. and now you are laughing at your little mistake
13. pick me as the best answer else
14. don't pick me as the best answer
15. and just let your computer blow up

Sure. Obviously completely turn it off. Unplug the power cord, pop the case and using your vacuum, get all the dust out. You can also use a can of air to blow out the dust from the smaller places your vacuum can't reach.

HOWEVER, be very careful and try to use a vacuum on a hose and don't get too close to the components really. Use your hand or a brush or some sort to loosen up the dust and then vacuum. Might want to take it outside.

Good luck

I've had the same. dust and stuff does make it noisey, but the overclocking warnings is just a fault with the processor.

If its like mine then you only get them once in a while, for example if you reboot after installing some new hardware or something. I know its annoying, but it will last you until you decide again in a few years or whatever.

Hope this helped.
