i 've heard people. particularily white people bashing blacks or others who use slang words. they say that it is ignorant and that it sounds stupid. i think that its a free country and if you are with your friends then you can talk however you choose and that it is in no way ignorant. its part of culture and if you don't like it, don't speak it. but don't knock others because they do. it does not mean that they are ignorant or uneducated and it should not be perceives that way. what do you think about using slang??would you be upset if your on, or daughter or someone used it? (not cursing words). how would you feel?

Well you're partially right. In certain situations it is acceptable to use slang, generally this is any informal situation. There are other times when you do not want to and should not use slang, take for instance a court sentencing or testimony on your behalf. Written communication is a poor place to use slang unless your audience is very well know to you. The reason for this is that slang is not defined and the terms used may not mean the same thing outside of where you use it (people in a different state or country many have a different meaning for it).

It's not slang that indcates ignorance but the poor or inappropiate use of it. Yahoo answers is probably not a good place to use slang as you have an extramely diverse audience who may interpet your writting totally different than you meant.
