I have a 1995 Buick Skylark and just today I noticed the voltmeter fluctuating above and below 13 volts. The fan was on and I could hear the fan motor speeding up and slowing down.

I recently had it checked for vacuum leaks and the electrical system checked out OK too. The alternator is 3 1/2 years old now. The car has 104,000 miles on it. Thanks.

Go to an Automotive parts house, I use Auto Zone, and see who can check your battery and alternator for free. Voltage regulator is on the alternator and this will be checked too.

The voltmeter on your dash is just a battery charge indicator, and is not a true voltmeter anymore, So have you battery checked as it may be going. How old is the battery? Has it been really cold in your area?
