Certain fishes (def not sushi!), shellfish too. Some fishes have higher mercury counts than others. Although a midwife at my doctor's office told me all fish is ok in moderation (2 servings a wk). Not sure if I totally believe that one. No fake sugars so watch those flavored waters if you like them-most are sweetened with the bad sugars. You can have honey. Honey shouldn't be given to children under 2 I believe but it's ok for pregnant women. I put it in my tea a lot. My girl is totally healthy. Check all foods you buy to make sure abt the sugars. Also, you can only have pasteurized cheeses (cannot have brie or feta or I believe even blue cheeses). Lunch meat isn't good to eat either although I've had it on occasion. Doc said it was fine. The less caffeine the better. Drink lots of water! Congrats and good luck!

Smoked salmon is similar to lunch meat as it is processed and proper temperatures may not always be maintained, also it is raw, not cooked. (Though you can cook it)

But really it depends on where you live as to what a doctor would say. Weigh the risks and benefits yourself. Personally I ate sushi, the risk is very low and the benefits of fish and seaweed are very high.

Can I eat cold meats and smoked salmon when I'm pregnant?
Some countries advise pregnant women not to eat cold meats or smoked fish because of the risk of listeria. In the UK, we don't advise women to avoid these products because the risk is very low. The risk of listeria is much higher with soft mould-ripened cheeses (such as Brie and Camembert) or pâté, which you shouldn't eat during pregnancy. However, if you are concerned, you might also choose to avoid cold meats and smoked fish while you are pregnant.

Is it OK to eat sushi when I'm pregnant?
It’s fine to eat sushi when you’re pregnant as long as any raw fish used to make it has been frozen beforehand. This is because occasionally fish contains small worms, which could make you ill if they are still alive when you eat the fish. Freezing kills worms and makes raw fish safe to eat.

Lots of the sushi sold in shops is bought in already made, not made at the shop. This type of sushi should be fine to eat, because if a shop or restaurant buys in ready-made sushi, the raw fish used to make it must have been frozen at minus 20°C for at least 24 hours.

But if a shop or restaurant makes its own sushi on the premises, the fish might not have been frozen. If you’re concerned, ask the staff.

If you make your own sushi at home, freeze the fish for at least 24 hours before using it.

gravad lax is not smoked. It is a pickled and brined salmon that has been cured for many many days.
You should avoid raw fish (too many chances of a bacteria that a fetus can't fight off) and you should also avoid too much fish like salmon (because of the high mercury contents).
Gravad lax has the distinct ability to be
1. raw fish
2. high in mercury
3. possibly prepared poorly because it takes weeks to make it right so the chance of food poisoning or spoilage is high
I'd avoid the gravad lax and then you will have something to look forward to on the first breakfast that you and your husband have when you return from the hospital with your new healthy baby.

Both of these are actually uncooked fish! I would not eat them without asking your doctor first.

Lox is smoked salmon fillet that has been.... cured and then often cold-smoked. The cold smoking does not cook the fish, resulting in its characteristic smooth texture, similar to the raw product.

Also known as Gravad lax or Gravlax, this is a traditional Scandinavian means of preparing lox (salmon). Gravad lox is not smoked, but it can be served in a similar fashion. The salmon is coated with a spice mixture, which often includes dill, sugars, salt, and spices like juniper berry. It is then weighted down to force the moisture from the fish and impart the flavorings. It is often served with a sweet mustard-dill sauce.

I wouldnt...many many fish even if its uncooked just a little is very bad for the baby besides a lot of fish contain mercury that can cause your baby to have birth defects or having a stillborn baby...many times a woman doesnt even know the fish they are eating is actually bad (even some tuna fish is bad for you)..I would suggest not to eat it but if u really want to then ask your doctor before doing so...

You should ask your doctor to be sure. I have heard that you should steer clear of eating shark, swordfish, King Mackerel, or tilefish during pregnancy because they contain high levels of mercury. Tuna is ok to eat...about 1 or two cans per week or one fresh steak per week. Hope this helps...Still, check with your doctor. Good Luck.
