Some people get into the apparently harmless habit of denying when they are wrong. It seems at the time like a quick clever little cheat from having to have that momentary burn of humility and loss of face. But, like any addiction, it becomes a deeper and deeper need and gradually it becomes like a dam holding back a huge backlog of humiliation and eventually becomes too much for them to face anymore. This is how permanent delusions are formed.
It sounds comical, but it's deadly serious at that point - they CANT admit to being wrong, and they'll take any action necessary, up to and including divorce or violence, to get away from any compelling contradictory evidence to that effect.

No. I do not believe there is even though some would like to believe that. Sometimes people need help to see another persons view or to see the facts. If it is a fact.Every perception is different. When you speak of denial that is a whole new ballgame. I agree with you. I am good at saying I was wrong. Sometimes is hard but without that being said then I wouldn't have learned anything new. Frankly that is a frightening thought. Great question.

You are right!
But some folks have nothing to fall back on for personal security. They have based their whole ego on being right! What a flimsy supposition. But that's the way some people are constructed. Being right is more important that even discovering whether they are right or not. Very immature stance.
I try to avoid them, since I'm so fond of being right myself!! Ha ha they take up all of the right cards, leaving me the left ones.
best of luck, be glad you are you.

I know exactly what you mean. Studies show that people with know-it-all personalities are actually quite insecure. They are often fairly intelligent, but need to feel (and prove to others) that they are smarter and more well-informed than everybody else. This usually stems from childhood and them being told they weren't smart enough by parents, teachers, etc. The best way to deal with this personality type is to remind yourself that they behave that way with everyone, not just you, and that deep down they are very insecure people who stress out a lot over being the smartest one.

A lack of confidence would make a person not want to admit they made a mistake. If they're unsure of themselves in other areas they won't want to admit weakness in any area.

Humans are naturally competitive. Everyone wants to be the top dog.
When you admit you are wrong, you admit that you are (for the time being) inferior to the other person.

Vanity, that's the pyschological block. People are thinking too much about themselves to think of other people.
