I'm not sure about shortening the period, but I know some ways to make it go away for a few hours when you need it to. Orgasms do help....after a few orgasms the blood flow seems to lessen and sometimes stop for a while. Also, you may want to try having sex in the shower in order to avoid messy sex.

Beer? No. Orgasms, maybe. If you are noticing that, post orgasm, your flow is a bit heavier, this may be because you the uterine contractions involved is helping to expel the tissue. But I doubt that it'll actually shorten your period much.

As far as ways of shortening your periods, you could try one of the new b.c. pills (Yaz is the only one that leaps to mind but I know there is another one) that has fewer placebo pills, which gives you less time for breakthrough bleeding. Or try Seasonale or another form of continuous b.c. to stop your periods for months at a time. Instead cups (in the tampon aisle) or a diaphragm are useful for sex-on-your-period blood blocking.

I've heard that orgasms help speed up the process because it makes the uterus contract and expel the tissue. From personal experience, I've found it doesn't help me. Beer won't do anything except help you not care so much about your periods!

There is a product called Instead Soft Cups. They're mainly for menstruation in place of tampons or pads. They're shaped like a diaphragm, but the thing they tout is "clean sex." You can buy them everywhere...I even saw them at Wal*Mart recently. Give them a try.
