im in 8th grade and im writing a book just because i like to write. im writing about two boys in a ghetto in Africa and they get news about another war might happen and then the war does happen and Africa gets attacked and they get captured by the U.S and their parents dont know what happend to them and they dont know where there parents are and the U.S trains them and they fight in the war. i just want it to be atention grabbing. im already on chapter 5

The Best answer I can think of is to make the characters as real and interesting as possible so that someone reading will want to find out what happens in the story because they are curios about the character, how He or She will chose decisions or meet challenges they face, etc. A lot of the best Authors of books and stories are very social and know people socially really well. I hope that helps

Lot of dialogs (don't write in description anything you can say in talk of the characters), lot of action, descriptions only when you really need them to colour the atmosphere or for reader's information about the circumstances. Let the characters to experience strong emotions (but only with good reason for it), let them live their own lives, let them behave according to the personality you gave them, don't use them like puppets and don't forget the logic.
