I read this a few years ago, can't remember the story but I know I didn't like it at the time. Has anyone read it? Is it worth giving it another go?

I loved this book. The contrast in character between Felicia and Mr Hilditch is stark. I found it suspensful and heartbreakingly sad. I think it would stand up for a re-read and then watch the movie. Bob Hoskins is superb as Hilditch.

Yes, but also try to get hold of either Miss Gomez and the Brethren, or Children of Dynmouth. Those are his best. Also, his Collected Stories (if they are not in print, it's a disgrace, I will post you my own copy).
