I can't remember what it was like without one.
But for me it is for urgent use, emergency and RARE chats during rush hour evening trips. I keep it turned off during the day at work and off after I get home as I have a land phone

i love my chocolate and i like when im out in public and it starts ringing crazy b*tch by buckcherry starts playing i get some looks but theyre the best when its old people but really i dont mind the ringing as long as the person whos calling has verizon so its free

it is a neccessity, but it does get annoying at times. it seems to ring more when i don't want to talk to anyone, yet days when i am bored w/nothing to do noone calls. go figure
