Actually, "Jet" was on the album,"Band On The Run," not "Venus and Mars." Good song.

"With A Little Luck". "Let 'Em In" is the first song I ever learned all the words to, when I was 3 or 4 and I'd have to go with "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" as the most memorable, but "With A Little Luck" I cannot get enough of.

I remember traveling from NJ over the Verrazano Bridge into Brooklyn to visit my grandfather when I was quite young. It seemed every time my family crossed that bridge a Wings song would play, and nothing made me happier. "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" played most often and I absolutely loved it. Back then I thought the lyric was "There's no one left at home and I believe I'm going to rain" and it seemed to be the most fitting description for everything I was feeling. I know now that the word is "reign" but I still love the surreality and intensity of "I believe I'm going to rain." It is perhaps the best quote to describe depression that I know. The bridge crossings were a quiet time away from the constant yelling and fighting in my parents' house. With the radio on, the inside of places didn't seem so frightening. "With A Little Luck" made me cry from the moment I heard it. The lilt to Paul's voice, the gorgeous music, the voice-change at the end (not on the "short" version) all inspired me, and the sentiment of the song made me feel spiritual, transcendent.

I remember one day in my 20s I was so filled with panic, pain, and grief I could hardly speak or breathe. I was driving the car and "With A Little Luck" came on. I pulled over for an hour and just let myself cry. I was pretty unforgiving of myself in those days and I kept my emotions inside. This helped break the cycle. To this day hearing it can bring me to tears and continues to make me feel transcendent.

How about you?

Band on the Run and Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey remind me of particular periods in life and give a certain flavor to memories. But, at the time, I would snicker and change the channel when "Silly Love Songs" came on the radio. To this day, I hum bits of Venus and Mars, too. Wings was the sound of the era, but in agreement with another answerer, I'd have to say that Lennon's lyrics were much wittier. (He seemed to benefit from the leavening influence of McCartney though and he got rather weird and hyperpolitical after the breakup.) For music, I'd say McCartney, for lyrics, Lennon.

P.S. For sheer rollicking fun, I enjoyed Wings' single "Hi Hi Hi." And did you remember that they hit #6 with a remake of "Mary Had a Little Lamb?" (it was McCartney's protest of the harsh treatment of his rather obviously political song "Give Ireland Back to the Irish." Incidentally, I don't play these much anymore...)

"Maybe I'm Amazed". I hate to say this, but after McCartney went on his own, it was easy to see who the brains behind the writing was-John Lennon.
