support the food web with in the seas and oceans.When there is an algal bloom they may release chemical toxins.

They block the sun light. Consume oxygen in water leading to fish kills.Produce surface scum, odour-- interfere with the feeding of shellfish and other organisms.Some algal species produce chemicals which are toxic to humans and aquatic life.
