I want to get rid of my daughter's old computer and someone told me that there are places that will come and pick them up. What and how do I look-up those places. And what kind of questions should I ask?

your local community should have a recycling center that will take it and dispose it the right way. good for you to think about the environment.

Before you get rid of it, smash the hard drive because just deleting the files won't work, because someone with the right software can hack the files. then you should contact got-junk and tell them to come and pick it up. You can call them at 1 800 GOT JUNK(1 800 468 5865)

I would erase any personal info from the hard drive & donate to a local non profit organization that provides social assistance to those in need ... I'm sure someone from there will be glad to pick it up.

Look in your town or city directory for a good choice.

There are many underpriveledged children or struggling seniors who would benefit from having it ... even a very old one.

I dont know of places that will pick up, but in my town there are places that will buy your old computer. Computer Deli is one of these places in Central Illinois, Computer Renassance(sp?) is another. Just look in the old yellow pages and try a few places...

There are a few computer recycling programs out there.

One is http://www.eiae.org/

Apple also has one where you can send it to apple for free to be recycled if you buy an apple computer or monitor (which would be a good idea to replace the old one).

Last time I heard:

Pc's and skips are still compatable

Find a skip or trashing yard and simply dump it where it will be collected
