U2 all the way. There lyrics are social commentaries and there music will send shivers down anyones spine.
They have sold millions of record and recieved 22 grammys. Their music is passionate, emotive, and strong. Bono, the lead singer, has the greatest voice of anyone still alive and their lyrics are extremely insightful. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked U2 #22 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.In 2005, U2 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the first year they were eligible.
What also makes them so great would be their philanthropy, they truly care for their fans and the well being of society. They are politically active in human rights and social justice causes, such as Make Poverty History, the ONE Campaign, Live Aid, Live 8, Bono's DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade in Africa) campaign, and The Edge's Music Rising.
THEY MAKE MUSIC TO EXPRESS IDEAS NOT TO GAIN MONEY OR FAME, and i commend them for that.
THEY ARE THE GREATEST MUSICIANS OF THE LATE 20th CENTURY AND THE VOICES OF OUR GENERATION.

The best band alive is the "Eagles", because they have been around since the seventies and they still are going today in the 2000's. They have fans from several age groups. Just ask my son who is only five who he loves to listen too...
