I do wedding work from my home as a hobby only and I need to be able to purchase fresh flowers from wholesalers. I need a state tax ID number to purchase from wholesalers.

Just go and apply for a tax id number that simple. Come up with a name for your hobby company its that simple. You can even file taxes at the end of the year in conjunction with your normal taxes. A company can show a loss for the first 5 years so this can come in handy such as buying that new computer or what ever that you might use in your business, it can be used as a write off on your taxes so it is pretty much free. there are many ways to get tax cuts with having your own tax id number. :<)

I would contact a friend or associate with a buisness license and buy it through them. Offer an incentive.
