A long time ago. I now make less money, and I am happier than ever. Don't have many belongings. Don't need them.

Happiness is an internal feeling of contentment. Money represents the material world and is an external position. However, I do remember a study on the question: "Can money buy happiness?" The answer was "yes" for people whose greatest problems were financial issues. The study also found the amount of money needed to buy happiness is 5 million dollars. I'm sorry I do not remember more details of the study, but it's been within the last couple of years.

Having money will not automatically bring happiness, but not having money, almost always leads to stress and unhappiness especially when you have a family to take care of.

We all hear the lovely stories about how so and so was poor all their lives but were happy. Truth is, those cases are usually vary rare, and the people involved were blessed with the ability to not worry. Most of those stories are exaggerated as well, and forget to mention all the nights that people stayed up worrying about where the food was going to come from the next day.

All we have to do is look at third world countries to see that not having money definitely causes unhappiness, pain and death. There is nothing wrong with working hard to get money, especially when it is for your family or friends. It would be awesome if we didn't have to, but thats not life.

Sorry, Donsrea, money buys a whole lot of happiness. Money allows people the opportunity to give and help others. And giving and helping can be the greatest source of happiness there is.
Although I will tell you that there are people who have money and are not happy...only because they don't know how to give and help.
Poverty kills...it kills the soul and crushes the spirit and turns life gray and hopeless. Just go to any inner city neighborhood where trash and filth and drugs and all those other ugly things prevail and you will see why poverty kills. It drives otherwise normal happy loving people to do the most horrific things. Most people aren't' interested in greed, they just want to pay their bills on time and have enough to do a few fun things in life without the other foot falling to squash that joy.
No, you don't have a grasp of the whole picture. Poverty kills!

Sometimes never.

Others may accumulate enough wealth to realize that they couldn't possibly spend it all, and then they have this epiphany. Look at Bill Gates.

Others may finally get exhausted enough and frustrated enough with the accumulation of things and the work and payments that are involved in that whirlpool.

When they obtain a lot of money & realize that they still aren't happy. Or when they find happiness within themselves (by loving themselves) & realize that they don't need money.

You just venting? There's obviously no way of knowing the answer to that. A sufficiently cynical view of human nature leads to the answer "Never!"
