The problem has occurred with increased frequency over the last 2-3 weeks, and seems to coincide with either someone taking a shower in one of the upstairs bathrooms, or when the washing machine is used. The washing machine is on the same level as the toilet in question, about 10-15 feet away. Only one of the upstairs showers seems to trigger the over-flowing. Please help!

You're drain vent is probably clogged.

As water goes down another drain it can push an air bubble with it. That air should be able to go up the vent and out the roof. If it is blocked, the air bubble will blurp up some other place, such as your toilet, pushing up water with it.

One of those drain unclogging companies may be able to clear it for you.

(that happened to our house this past weekend when it was really cold. But it only happened once- Fushed a toilet and all of a sudden water just blurbed up putting 2 inches of water on the bathroom floor which spilled into kitchen below. The light fixture in kitchen looked like a goad fish bowl. What a flippin mess!)

I've seen similar cases in the past. It's probably some kind of leak or faulty valve somewhere that allows the water pressure from the washing machine or the shower to get through to the toilet. It may also depend on how the piping is done in your house. However, I'm not a professional plumber and I don't know precisely where would be the best place to look for this problem.

One other thing: getting your septic tank cleaned out may help, especially if you've had lots of rain recently.

some ware on the same level as the over flowing toilet, is a clog.Any water from higher above, comes racing down the sewer pipe, hits what ever the clog is, and then backs up and runs out any other means of excape. If you have a basement below, Rent a roto router machine, unscrew that huge round cap , and run it through the sewer pipe a few times.
Have some one watch down there, while you go to the offending comode, plunge toilet and flush several times, and see if your friend saw any thing com past { use a flash light, and stand to one side when down there watching. ]

Do not try to run that steel snake upwards towards the toilet, It might crack the porcelene base

It sounds like the check valve in the PVC pipe which takes the "stuff" away from the bowl is broken,or not working, maybe stuck open. If the toilet in question is on the same level as the washer, when the washer is draining, the water would back up into the toilet. Those check valves allow water to flow only in one direction, away from the flush.

OK first of all she delivered a baby herself at 14. Why would she have a baby at 14. Who was the father? Why didn't anyone notice her tummy growth. I feel that if world is coming to like 14 year Olds having babies and trying to flush them down a toilet whats the point anymore. Couldn't she have just told her mother. I know her mother would be mad but i know she would help her make the right decision like going to a hospital. Her mother would take this as a ♥ hate situation. Why didnt she take this seriously? So Sad :(

I'd guess you either have a partial clog in your sewer line, somewhere beyond where the toilet hooks into the sewer line, or you could have a clogged vent. In either case, these two sections of line should be snaked with a plumber's snake. This can be pretty messy, so you may want to hire a company to come and do it for you.
