They claim that there can be no exemptions to anti-discrimination laws, yet a few years ago they passed an act granting political parties exemptions from sex discrimination laws, so that they could give women candidates preferential treatment.

Therefore they have already conceded that exemptions can be made!

Yes, but the problem here is that they have created legislation to criminalise matters of conscience (religious doctrine), when all other groups, including the COE, were free to continue allowing gay couples to adopt. Interestingly, Muslims agree with the RCC. I have never seen a Government be so intolerant in pursuing tolerance. 'Gays', shouldn't allow the Government to do this in their name, because they, above all, should know what it is like to be part of a persecuted minority.

The real truth, of course, is that left wing governments despise all formal religion, because it interferes with the imposition of their left wing totalitarian edicts. This represents "their religion". Expect more of it, until we become a completely immoral and ungodly state.

Why do most of your respondents assume that because this government has produced yet another piece of crass intolerant legislation (EU inspired HRA) that it is automatically good legislation. The Catholic Church has held these views for centuries, and the law has no place interfering in matters of conscience. They would do well to read an article on this subject in Mondays (31-1-2007) Daily Mail, written by Melanie Phillips. And listen to some sense on this subject.

I can understand them wanting to stand strong although seriously, how many gay couples are going to apply to a Catholic adoption agency knowing the prejudice the church has towards gay realtionships. Why would you want to put yourself in that situation?

... so you are saying that the Catholics (in England) should 're-brand' themselves as a Political party & would then get an exemption (sounds like Northern Ireland to me ..) ?

If you are worried about what Labor is getting up to, just wait untill the Catholics get into power (yes, I really would expect the Spanish Inquisition ..)

So are you saying that because you can point out an absurdity in the law that makes it alright to add another one?

Is this a similar argument to its alright to steal because there are people already doing that?
