Yes it should be a felony.
There are different degrees of a felony, this would not rank with rape, murder, theft.
Cruelty to animals is a very sick thing. The person is usually a nut case!
If I were the king, I would administer the same punishment to the person that commits the act.
Tie them to a tree in the hot sun...
Do not water or feed them
beat them
set them on fire

It should certainly be a felony! How the hell can anybody be entertained by torturing a defenseless animal?! Some people are so f**king worthless! I really wish that our legal system and our society did a better job of addressing animal rights.

Felony? Do you really understand the laws and what they mean?

Felony charges are for rapists and murderers. Are you saying that raping a human being is equal to causing physical pain to an animal?

Get a grip. Animals are on this earth to serve and feed us humans. While I agree that it takes a sick human being to take pleasure in torturing an animal, it's hardly equal to harming a human being.

If animals are equal to human beings, does that mean that you would not be able to choose whether to save your child/parent/sibling or your dog from a burning house?

This is a shame that someone would NOT think this is a felony. I am so sad that you even had to ask this.

fozzie, why dont you get someone to break your legs for a sport? you might enjoy it then. its people like you who make the world as awful as it is. harming animals in any way is absolute cruelty and should be stopped. just because they can't speak up for themselves the way us humans can doesnt mean we can do whatever the hell we want with them.
it should be made a punishable offense, in answer to your question

no felony, no one complains about killing animals when you eat out at mcdonalds or anyother fast food chain. The animal is going to die either way
