Right is any one else having major problems with bt home hub, or bt total broadband? I'v only had option 3 for 2 months, the first month was great only few problems, good speed average of 3.5mb on my line. Now i'm in my second month and my speeds have droped to 1mb, the bt home hub restarts itself, the signal i'm getting is very weak, i'v done a speed test which says i'm getting the 3.5mb download speed.

So i'v been on the phone to BT for the past week nearly everyday. Who are trying to resolve the problem by connecting me to people abroad. Who i dont understand. They have made me do line tests, used remote assitance to configure my pc's, told me to connect the phoneline to the master socket, changed micro filter, and on monday they told me leave the hub off for 24 hours which i did, rang them today, and are telling me they will monitor the line for another 24 hours.

Can any one help me? is it the bt home hub or are they just having fun. Its stugeling to load pages, all day.

extened question from part 1....Well I'v only got one main socket installed by BT, I dont have any other, I'v only got the BT hub and my normal phone running of it. YET theres still noise in the line, so i told them to sort that out also, i live on the out skirts of the local exchange.

I do have another line by BT in my house which is a business line, i remember before i got my bt total broadband that it was estimated to give 5mb today i rang up asking whats the max i ca get from it they said 2mb.... wtf. I'v also ordered a netgear hub/router.

BT keep asking me if i have my xbox, fax etc attached to the line and i'v told them everytime i ring them i do not have a fax or an xbox.. they dont keep a record off early conversations either.

p.s. I'm on option 3

UPDATE 04/02/07: Right I'v had a BT Engineer come around on Friday and he checked my BT line and the local exchange, and said everything seems to be ok. He also advised me to ring up BT and ask for a ADSL Engineer to pay a visit.

My CPU usage on my pc is around 6% to 10% jumps up and down but nothing ridiculous. I'v emailed customer support asking them for answers and also that i will be writing to ofCom. I think i'm on the phone to BT nearly everday lol. Today they said we will opena new case and will ring you back in 2 days ... GREAT!

Thinking of switching to SKY.

!!!UPDATE!!! 06/02/07

Right where to begin, I got home from university today and rang turned my pc on and no improvements so I rang BT who I had discused for them to send an adsl engineer to my home. Today the hommies in India said they are not able to due to the line test from their ends being 100% ok. So i'm thinking what the hell can it be then i'v tried a new netgear router and i get the same problem. So i hanged up. I know the bill for phone calls will be crazy, so i'm going to ring up BT in the uk and see if i can speak to customer support.

May have to switch to sky now been on the phone to them. I wanted to report this matter to ofcom but this would take ages (8weeks) for the issue to be resolved etc with BT. and i dont have the time.

So going to ring up BT ask for my mac code... Does anybody know if they can give my mac code without cancelling my internet, as i dont wana be left for 2 weeks without any internet. Uni work etc.

Regards
P Kundi

The Home Hub is a pile of rubbish, it's no wonder that it's being given away.

I had the BT hub in October with Broadband wireless connection and I could write a book about my problems. As soon as I took my laptop away from the Hub the signal disappeared. A second Hub was sent and this was the same. A third Hub was ordered but incredibly a hub phone arrived instead. This was another BT mistake but I was told to keep the phone, which is residing in a cupboard. What a waste.

My complaints bounced from Newcastle, Ireland and of course the dreaded Indian "help" line who took over my laptop by ethernet connection and completely messed up everything after 1 hour on the phone. Costs of the call and my inability to use Broadband for over 2 months was fully credited by BT. After eventually having a very helpful BT person in Newcastle restore my laptop to its original settings, everything was fine. Guess what? The local BT server in my area had a massive breakdown and everything was lost again. Further dealings with India were fruitless and unintelligible. Having told BT somewhere in England how totally unacceptable this was, they sent out an engineer who sorted things out. At the same time I saw an Openreach engineer working for BT on some underground cables near my home and suddenly the Broadband speed increased dramatically and is now fine. I was told orignally that I should get an excellent signal where I live so I was very pleased all seemed settled, three months after I originally signed up. Then my BT bill appeared and I found I had been charged £148 plus VAT for the "free" engineer's visit to my home. This pushed my bill much higher than normal so BT advised they were doubling my monthly direct debit.

Steam was coming out of my ears by this time and it took two calls lasting one hour and then 45 minutes being bounced between billing and Broadband, before I finally spoke to a lady who cancelled the charge and the increased direct debit. It is a complete disaster zone to try contacting the right department at BT and you are kept waiting and waiting and waiting for the eventual 'not my department' and a transfer again taking lengthy waits

The BT home hub is rubbish. Put a search on here for the home hub and see others with same problem as you. I guess they got them made on the cheap by packard bell!!!! Buy yourself a decent wireless router like netgear, d-link or linkseys. Try ringing bt and see if they can help you. Google you home hub and see how many other people are complaining about it. Also, although it seems like a good deal at the time it is best NOT to go for a free router deal and it's also a good idea to keep re-booting your router if you use a lot of torrent sites for downloading and uploading

I dont have the hub, but was connected via router. I was getting 56kbs download speed so I upgraded to what was then option 4, £29.99 per month) My speed jumped to 100 kbps, occasionally, but lasted only 2 days before it went even lower, down to 28, then below 10kbps. I also carried out all the stupid checks that the call centre in India tells you, all to no avail. This went on for 6 MONTHS until I decided I'd had enough. I got to the stage that when I called India, I told them first that I had carried all the steps they tell you, just to save time. The matter was never resolved so i contacted BT and cancelled my agreement. I also asked for compensation. They gave me £50 for the month they forgot to connect me to the faster connection, and finally a credit of £40 after I left them. You will need the mac code off BT and they are obliged to give it to you. Cancel the agreement if you still have time to run on it and state that you are cancelling because they have not kept to their part of the contract and you will not be penalised. Just to let you know, I was told max I can get is 2meg as I live far away from the exchange. I changed to SKY. I had to have Sky t.v so it was installed free of charge. I paid £15 a month for 2 packages and got Sky sport free for 6 months. I changed my phone over to SKY at a cost of £5 a month (free calls anytime to UK landlines plus you pay BT for line rental) and I joined SKY Broadband. I could have had broadband free if I didnt download more than 2 gig a month but decided to go for the other option of max 40 gig a month at the unbelievable cost of just £5 a month. So total paid to SKY including my phone calls, TV and broadband is £25 a month plus the £11 to BT for the line rental. This is £14.99 a month LESS than I was paying BT, and got free phone calls and SKY TV thrown in (Compared to £29.99 a month plus £11 line rental paid to BT) I cant believe what a difference it made. Immediately my connection speed went up to 180 kbps and have never had any trouble whatsoever with SKY. The silly thing is that BT run the exchange and couldnt find out why the connection speed was so bad with them, yet with SKY, via same exchange, Ive had no probs. Tell em to stick it and look for a better deal with another ISP. Good luck.

I think there is some problem with your PSTN exchange(telephone exchange), because the broadband speed depends on the phone line. BT provide a speed "UP TO" 8Mbps to its MAX customers. This speed depends upon the phone line. MAX customers sometimes gets a speed of 2Mbps because of that. May I know when was the last time you have contacted the BT technical support and what they have done for this issue. I should advise you to check the CPU usage also( it should be around 6% if you are using XP) and run a complete virus scan of your PC(If you haven't done that)

I got bt hub in Nov 06 it worked for the fir ts month ,then like you I had to sit on the phone for nearly 2 hours, at mu expense and time . Then guess what it didn't work the next day but I just don't have the time to phone them. I got out the soft ware and re installed then got the grey number off the back of the hub when it asked for the key number or something and this worked for a few days. I installed it again but only worked for a short time. Please let me know if you get it resolved.

I had this same issue with my BT Hub - My problem was due to a telephone extension cable plugged in the main socket running a phone in the kitchen - speed was running at about 1.5 meg at this point, removed the extension cable, now running at just under 8 meg - not had a problem with it since. If any of your BT sockets are not the ones professionally installed by BT - you could have an issue with speeds.

I got BT to send an engineer out to check my line to start with - They are split in to two divisions BT will charge you for an engineer visit, but BT total Broadband refunded me this when I threatened to terminate my contract with them as they were not providing the service I was paying for - so they sent an engineer out. If you do this, make sure you get Broadband to agree to pay the costs b4 you get an engineer - they charge about £70 an hour. If you can get out of your contract with them - bin them and get Sky - You can get Sky HD + Broadband for only about £10 more a month than you are paying for option 3 - If only I could get Sky....

We have the BT Home Hub. Our computer is in the living room, which is about 2 meters from where the Home Hub is sitting. Our connection goes off and on... whereas my brother uses his laptop around the house, and the signal is perfect.
I have contacted BT on this matter on numerous occasions, but as I only get foreign speakers, I find it really difficult to understand and end up frustrated and hanging up!

It probably isnt your hub. Ive been on Option 1 for 2 years. For the first 6 mnths or so I had very little connection. They eventualy sent somebody to my house, decided I lived too far from the exchange, connected me to my master socket, reduced my speed from 2mb to 1mb,did away with the filters, which I still have, and Ive had no trouble since. Fortunately this is fine for my needs. But I can understand your frustration. My biggest nightmare was when I had to phone people in India, and I couldnt understand what was going on

I have had no problems with my BT Hub or connect speed (which has stuck at 2.8Mb/s - poor but I live close to the edge of the 5.5km radius from my exchange).

The Total Broadband package is not very flexible though and the d/load caps are horrendous unless you have option 3.

At least they havent premium rate technical support lines like some isps.
