Nowadays, Hollywood movies are either: 1. Remakes of old TV shows, 2. Remakes of movies from Asia, 3. Remakes of old movies, 4. Sequels, 5. Parodies (i.e. Epic Movie, Date Movie - not much originality needed since the material is already out there for you to make fun of)

Why isn't Hollywood original anymore?

Hollywood is about making money and the execs seem to thing that the group who will spend most of their money on horrible movie is young men. And those young men turned out in droves for such drivel as Epic Movie...

As a film buff , I am sick of remakes and adaptations as well. The reason for this is to make sure that the film they produce has a built in audience , the fans of the source material. I can understand why the studios do not want to take risks in terms of profitable work , 7 out of every 11 movies made in Hollywood LOSE money apparently.

It's easier to remake a movie then to sit down and actually put time into a script that all the mainstream movie productions will turn down because it's not mainstream.

The formula movie is the most accepted by the younger market, which supplies the gross profit at the theatre.
Try independent films for a variation to the norm.

Maybe because movie stars produce their own movies and finance them. Often they have no taste or culture and pick banal or cliche scripts that end with them dying in a hail of bullets to hero music.

remake is the asiest thing to do...there's nothing to be thought of and ust make it better using high tech nowadays...furthermore, asia's movies industry is getting stronger and to challenge asia'a movies is by taking the movies under them....

Cause no one can think for themselves, and the ones who can are ignored, that's why Indies are so prevelant, yet ignored. Look at this new Houndog movie and all it's controversy.

too many studios, not enough weeding out of the bad to make room for the good

They don;t have to be.

And considering the amount of real scripts out there (check out zoetrope.com) there is no reason for it
