I just got this from the web for your interest. I had never heard of these they are amazing.

Notostracans in the aquarium
Notostracans are often sold to children in small packets as eggs as an interesting science project or as a beginner's kit for their first aquarium. One pours distilled or spring water onto the eggs, and they will hatch out very quickly--often within less than a day. They will also grow at a remarkable pace; growth is actually noticeable from one day to the next until they reach their maxiumum size of approximately 2 inches, including their caudal appendages. If food is not available in plenty--and sometimes even if it is--they will not hesitate to eat each other.

These creatures can make a useful addition to a freshwater aquarium, as they keep the substrate very clean and eat almost anything they find. They may, however pose a slight danger to very small fish or other crustaceans, and may in turn be eaten by large fish. Also, they may damage the roots of aquarium plants they encounter if not kept well fed. They are also very short-lived pets, but are easily replaceable.

I had some triops too. I only got one fully grown and the other babies died. So I ended up with none. That was mainly because I gave up. I don't necessarily mean that to you.

Triops are really cool and need their food. If you still want to only feed them every two days, then you could feed them a bit more than usual. This should give them the extra energy and build them up to live longer. However, like all pets, triops don't live as long as us humans!

They also need their tanks regularly cleaned. Maybe twice a week, maybe more. Depends on what you do and if you have time. Don't get lazy like I did and can't be bothered because it looks too much! You need to clean it more often because you will! And that's how they could be dying!

I think that it is the amount of food you give them. I can't remember what it said on the instructions, but I fed them everyday. I checked up on them in the morning and when I got back from work. (HINT HINT!!!!)

Also you should clean the tank with a wet tissue or old cloth with plain fish water as it doesn't harm them. Use luke warm water which should clean but not harm.

If you need any more info, leave me a message.

Hopefully this should help you.

Use no cleaning products -- water only. You can use a little clorox but rinse thoroughly and declorinate the water after. Triops need to be fed frequently -- I feed twice a day with finely ground food. Triops should live 1 to 3 months and get about two inches long including tail. I hatch mine in a ten gallon tank and add a cup of water twice every day till it is 1/4 full then I go to two cups of water twice each day and add an airstone with fine mist -- they seem to love it and will swim thru it a lot.

Triops only live so long. It could be your water, or it could be too cold. I acctually grew mine in a fishtank with my turtle for the purpose of food. Unfortunately, the turtle didn't get the concept.

The tank should be cleaned with warm water if its acrylic. Never clean a glass tank with hot water. The silicone may come off.

How many days has it been since they hatched? It could be that their life-span has been up. They only live so long

well, i had a triop one time that lived almost a year. he fed off the fish food that was left over from the neon tetra's that he was with.

when keeping them seperate...yes....the soap is what did it in....even special soap designed for animal tanks and such has harsh agents if used in large quantities, and leaves behind a filmy residue that mixes with new water once put into the tank, and compleatly messes with the fish cycle balance.

i would suggest just simply emptying 20% of the tanks water, and adding in DISTILLED...OR SPRING WATER...never use straight tap water, as it has iron, chlorine, and other agents and metals that are harmful to your triops, or even fish for that matter.

good luck!

My oldest Triops (Gut), lived for 61 one days! I kept him in his own separate tank, and he did well. You don't need to clean the tank though, SOAP KILLS THEM!!!!!! just pour off some of the water, and add some more.

Using soap to clean the tank is probably what did it.

You don't need to CLEAN the tank...you just have to regularly change the water and suck up any crap that collects on the bottom. Soaps are poisonous to invertebrates.

there is a few variety of formula indoors the egg packet or, based of what form you have, a tea bag. Conditioner is used for triops after their first moult. they are going to hatch yet might have a annoying time on the larva degree. i'm not incredibly particular myself.
