I got a dollar for each time I changed or thought of changing my major in college I would have had a mansion! What you are going through is VERY common - I believe the statistics is around 80% of people change their majors in college. I went from marketing to art history to sociology to geography and back to art history. If you have the means to take off a semester or two to evaluate your situtation then I would say go for it. Because college is a time consuming, expensive thing and you shouldnt take it to lightly. So many people fall back on "easy" majors such as English or History which rarely get you places unless you are very passionate about it and willing to devote your life to study and teaching it. One thing I did not do was sit back and RELAX and take a breather and think about what I am very passionate about and want to do in my life. It was all about "pick something QUIIICCK and get over it in 4 years". Now that I look back at it all I wish I had persued a science rather then an art which cost me a lot of $ and no jobs. I am not saying do a science and not an art, but also look at the job outlooks for what you are interested in. You school's admissions department should even have a test or two for you to take (its like one of the fun surveys from online) that can help you decide what your passion is. The main point is.. what do you want to see happen in your future?? Once you get that answer then you will be able to select a major that will HELP you get there - it wont be the answer, just a great assistance to your life goals. Good luck!:)

There's no limit, at least not where I went. However, every time you change, you also change the list of required courses and prerequisites for those courses, so finishing your degree could easily take you five years instead for four--for each change. It's worse the more different the majors are; some coursework may apply to several majors in the humanities but not do you much good in the hard sciences.

I started out as a tv broadcast journalist, but my advisor said I had a face for radio :-P So I switched majors to the production aspect of TV/Film...
Nursing and computer info seem like 2 completely different majors, my suggestion is to see if there's a combination of the two majors where you'd be able to market yourself to a company as a nurse who can revolutionize the company's computer info system, like patient tracking, etc....

three times. Accounting to real estate to computer programming.
Then I dropped out. I wanted something that payed well, but I could still deal with people. I do some public relations now while deciding if I want to go back to school.

Oh, plus I was adopted by the school of engineering and the Physics department

I went from computers to medical technology then back to computers. I still haven't finished. I have enough credit hours for a degree but they are not in any one area. Taking time off might help you focus, but I know from experience it is very hard to go back once you stop. I am 32 and I still have no clue what I want to do.

Well, I was gonna be a meteorologist, then an electrical engineer, and now I'm gonna go back to college next Sept do study to become a medical lab technician. I've always wanted to do something in the medical field, but didn't want to spend a decade in school to become a doctor lol.

Girl, you're preaching to the choir! I changed my major from theatre to french to history and finally added economics to it. In fact, most people I know have changed their majors around. Taking time off school can help you decide what you want to pursue, and save money on classes you may not need in the end. Just know that changing your major is perfectly normal, and you have all the time in the world to decide what you want to do (or you can double major!) Good luck!

I went from business, to wanting to become a vetinarian, to social science, to criminal justice, and now I am going for my MBA in Finace. It is never too late to change your mind in college. I graduated college with a degree in criminal justice and now I am working for a financial company. Unless you are trying to get involved in med school or law school or engineering, it doesnt really matter what your degree is in, because all companies care about is that you have your 4 year degree, and your mature. Because what it comes down to is experience in the workplace. Experience overshadows a college degree anytime, from what ive been learning. But if your not sure what to do head down to your schools administration building and find out what you have to do to get involved in an internship at company or field of your choice. The only way your going to know what you want to do in your life is to experience the position hands on for yourself.

im currently a fifth year senior because I changed my major like four or five times, now I'm a double major, but thankfully I'm graduating April 27, 2007. I started out as a Marketing Major, then Business, then Criminology, then Psychology now I'm Political Science and English (emphasis in creative writing) double major.. but don't give up, because to me that is the ultimate failure, so go for it, and keep at it because eventually you'll find something you are content with... but I feel your pain...
