Which do you think is the best way to apply? I've always done shadow, then mascara. However, I have really long eyelashes, and my mascara gets all over the lid of my eyes and underneath. After I wipe of the excess with a Q-tip, I often have to touch up my shadow. But, when I've put on mascara first, it always gets lots of powder and remnents of shadow on my lashes, making them appear duller. Any suggestions?

I always put shadow first, I'd rather re-apply shadow that get dusty looking lashes.

Which ever way you do it, I think you're going to need to retouch one or the other, no one can do make up perfectly the first time!

Shadow then mascara. My eyelashes are long, so if I do it the otherway, I have powder and shadow on my lashes. There is a way to prevent the smudges- apply a very thin coat of mascara very carefully, then comb it with a clean unused toothbrush or a lashcomb ,and it won't mess up the shadow. If your lashes are long and thick as you sad, one coat is enough- more mascara would look tacky for everyday wear.
If you need more thickness, just repeat up to 3 times. It takes a bit more time to apply, but it's still less time than the time you need to fix the shadow.

I put on shadow then mascara, my lashes are long too so i do this weird eye thing where I try to keep my eyes half closed for a bit until the mascara dries. I've never had luck doing my mascara first

Eyeshadow first. But really you just need to work on the problem. Especially with your pretty lashes, to accent them, apply your mascara slowly and meticulously, a little care makes all the differance. Do one side at a time, keeping that eye squinted while it dries, or get a friend to blow on it for you. Also, I don't know if you're interested but I found the best mascara by accident, it's called lash in a tube by physicians formula. I got it at wallgreens, but I was just really amazed how much nicer it went on. I hate crappy mascara.

I always apply mascara first for the same reason you mentioned, that it gets on my eye lid and I end up having to wipe it off. When I get the powder on my lashes, I usually lightly run a Q-tip or a soft brush over my lashes and it will take most of the powder off~

Hope this helps :)

i always do my shadow first, and then the mascara. this is because if i do the shadow after the mascara, i always have powder stuff on my lashes. but in your case, i think you should do the mascara, then shadow, and then mascara again. or even a better idea, get a creamy or stick shadow. (those dont flake and ruin everything)

Try shadow then mascara, and try to use a less goopy mascara with a careful hand. It could just be the product you use is the trouble, not the length of your eyelashes per se.

I have always done my shadow first and then my mascara. You could try putting the shadow on then a little mascara and let it dry and then any touch ups and then a final coat of mascara.

eyeshadow then mascara because your lashes are below your lids. you wouldn't want to have the mascara in the way while applying shadows

I have really long eyelashes and I find that if I put mascara on then my eyeshadow then the eyeshadow just sticks to the mascara and then it doesnt look as crisp. Its really up to whatever you feel works best.
