'cause it's not necessary to "spell" correctly. What I mean is that people who write on-line (though they are well educated) tend to type quickly and do not take notice of spelling errors. Also, the use of a spell checker does not eliminate problem words such as "there for their" or "through for threw". It's also not quite as important to produce editorial quality writing in a place like "yahoo answers".

I think people are to lazy to use spell checker. I find myself guilty of that all the time. Also, for some reason on yahoo answers and any other message boards I find I don't pay attention to my grammar or punctuation.
Maybe the Internet is guilty of making us less grammatically correct. I wonder what impact this has on our children, as well. Good questions to look into...

It seems there's a stigma attached to the proper use of spelling, grammar and punctuation these days. OK, people can (and do) make mistakes, but to do it intentionally as in the prolific use of SMS style spelling and saying "dis n dat" instead of "this and that" is, in my humble opinion, just stupid.

People are more concerned with the questions or answers than the are of their accuracy. Some people might think they're better typists than they are and just don't proof read.

Oh absolutely!! Annoys the hell out of me. It's not only that, it's the appauling grammar which often makes the responses completely nonsensical. Bah-humbug!

Laziness. Why hit "Check Spelling" when you can hit "Submit" and be done with it?
The art of proof-reading is dead. Discuss.

Does it reaaaly matter, its the context that's important. Far too many big-headed spelling professors on answers...... a bloody pet hate !

Either they are lazy or they are too ignorant to know that they can't spell.

I think people rush when typing in case someone else puts the same answer before them!
