This is a step by step:

Cigarette smoking, and even smoking cigars or a pipe, is one of the greatest risk factors for a heart attack as well as for stroke, lung cancer, and emphysema.

To stop smoking:

Set a quit date. Smoking cessation is most successful when it's done "cold turkey," not slowly by reducing the number of cigarettes smoked daily.

Throw them out. Throw away all cigarettes and matches at home, in your car, and at work. Put away ash trays and lighters.

Share your goal. Tell your family and friends you're quitting and ask for their support.

Avoid triggers. Avoid alcohol, coffee, and other triggers for smoking.

Set a no-smoking policy. Do not allow anyone to smoke in your home or car, and avoid other people when they are smoking.

Get tools. Take advantage of the available stop-smoking aids: nicotine replacements, drug therapy, and counseling. Less than 1 in 10 smokers can quit without some help. Nicotine gums, skin patches, and lozenges are available over the counter. Nicotine nasal sprays and inhalers require a prescription from your doctor. Don't smoke when using these products.

Get a prescription. Bupropion (Zyban) and varenicline (Chantix) are two prescription-only medications that may help you quit. Start taking one of these drugs shortly before your quit date.

Join a support group. Find a source of individual or group counseling. Counseling alone can be helpful, but it is particularly useful in combination with nicotine replacements or smoking cessation drugs.

Call the Quit Line. Call the National Cancer Institute Smoking Quit Line if you need more help. Their toll-free number is 1-877-44U-QUIT.
Though these measures and help aids considerably boost the chances of quitting, there's a more than 50 percent chance that a smoker who quits will start again. I hope this doesn't happen to you, but if it does, don't give up. Announce another quit date and start stopping again.

since you smoke that much everyday, your body got adjusted having these poisons running ur body. That's why people with more serious drug problems can actually die by quiting abruptly. You hav to take decrease your amount of cigarettes maybe every few weeks or whatever you're comfortable with. The reason why you were coughing and stuff (tryign to not smoke) was because your body was so used to having 2-5 cigarettes a day. So each week you should decrease slowly from 2-4cigarettes, then another few weeks, 2-3, then so on.

Some things my mother in law did to quit smoking was first remove all cigarettes from the house so that there is not temptation, keep lots of hard candy on hand to suck on when the cravings hit,try to find activities to do that occupy your mind (she took up crossstitching),for at least a week don't go around anyone who smokes, and she made a fake cigarette out of a piece of paper just to give her the comfort of holding a cigarette til the worst had passed.

Hi,
see I know that once you get addicted to smoking it is really hard to quit it. I know someone who has been smoking for 22years and almost 3 packets a day. He made up his mind to quit smoking and one day he just left it. And now when someone smokes in front of him he dosen't feel like smoking at all.And he says that if you want to quit smoking you can not leave it slowly but you have to leave it immediately.

www.quitnow.com has the most information available. One thing to do is to stay completely busy with your hands if it be working on crossword puzzles, knitting, crafts and chewing a gum that is strong in flavor such as "Orbit" Cinnamint. It gives smoking an aweful flavor. Try the "Commit" Lozengers. They are a new success and most importantly, don't drink alcohol for a while. At least until the habit is gone. I also used to carry around a small straw that I would keep in my hands until the habit was gone of needing something in my hands. *One last note: show her pictures of photos of lung cancer/smoke/emphasema infected lungs and what they call cauliflower tongue/cancer of the tongue and it will give her a different perspective of smoking. Hypnosis does NOT work!

Afteer smoking for over thirty years I quit by using nicatrol nasal spray. I used 5 tubes of the spray then used the step 2 patch for one week to get off the nasal spray. The key is NOT so much how to quit because NO matter what you do IF you are NOT ready to quit then you will NOT be able to do it. Good Luck.

you need to discipline her.. if she really loves you, she'll respect your decision.. or think of an idea that can substitute her smoking habit..
