I cannot get rid of pop ups saying that trojans,worms and whatever are infecting me. I am at risk from attack. Having done a scan i appear to be free from viruses.All these pop ups are selling different types of anti virus eliminators.I dont want to pay for this.

(1) Get you self a good antivirus or a free one .
(2) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot do that now .
(3) Also do an online virus scan to check what other viruses you have in your computer. If it still finds virus and spyware .
(4) Download hijackthis
(5) Post the hijackthis log on the hijackthis forum for the hijackthis experts to take a look

You have spyware, adware, malware or some other nasties.
You need a really good anti-spyware program. If the free ones don't fix your problem then try CounterSpy. It only costs $20 but worth every cent. It will activley keep your computer clean and safe.
Yes and do as someone else suggested. Run the scans in 'safe mode'. You do this by pressing F8 when your computer first starts up and select safe mode.

you need to download spybot and adware, run updates, after all that restart your computer in safe mode, run both progs a FEW times restarting each time, should help alot! open internet exploror, Tools, internet options, privacy tab, and click the pop ups box them customize it to block better..good luck

you have spyware & or addware. this free tool will remove them and then protect in future. http://spywareterminator.com and remember to run the updates first after you download it.
